Guest Blog: Casey Crow & Can’t Fake This Contest

Every Girl Needs a BFF By: Casey Crow

Thank you so much, Kathy, for having me today and featuring CAN’T FAKE THIS. It’s an honor to be here. I’m so excited to announce my debut with Loose, Id was named 2011 Best Contemporary at Love Romance Café and received a GOLD Star from Just Erotic Romance Reviews!

This story started out on a whim. At the last minute, I decided to enter this 10,000 word contest. I’d written spicy mainstream, but this was my first dive into erotic waters. I didn’t win the contest, but after having what I thought was a good start, I added some more words and low and behold, this erotic became the first manuscript I sold.

CAN’T FAKE THIS is about a divorcee ready to reenter the dating world. Anna Ryan is determined to be the best “product on the market,” which requires a lot more experience so she propositions sexy police officer Chase Harris to teach her how to make hot, passionate love as opposed to just having sex. He takes it a step further, instructing each lesson based on The Twelve Days of Christmas.

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…temptation in a hot package. For more, check out the book trailer and a super hot excerpt! The story definitely has my “Sexy, Sassy & Southern” trademark, but one of the things I like best about it is the relationship between Anna and her best friend. Like me, Anna goes to her best gal pal for advice and more often than not, whenever she needs to vent. Best friends never judge, no matter what stupid thing you do. They accept you for you and tell you the true, even if you don’t want to hear it.

Here’s a PG excerpt:

Marisol and I sat on her back porch, drinking hot chocolate on another relatively warm afternoon for December. God, I loved the South, where sixty degrees isn’t unusual for the height of winter. Even so, a flame blazed in the fire pit located in the center of her coffee table.

“Have you made a decision?” Marisol asked. She pushed around the remnants of the homemade smores our kids created earlier as she searched for more marshmallows to add to her cup. “It’s been over three weeks, and you were wrong. You said I’d pine for two weeks, but I’m still moping around barely able to function.”

“Has he contacted you?”

“At first, he would text every couple of days. Nothing big. He asked how I was. Stuff like that. I kept it light and distant, then today he sent me a message asking how was he ever going to get over me.”

“Did you reply?”

“No. I wanted to tell him, I’ll let you know when I figure out how I’m going to get over you, but then I got another message. Said he missed me all the time and it wasn’t just about sex. That he simply loved being with me.”

Marisol’s mouth dropped. “He’s seriously in love with you.”

I nodded.

“How do you feel?”

I took a big gulp of hot cocoa. “I’m attracted to him, but there’s more. I love him. He makes me laugh and feel good about myself. Chase cherishes and protects without dominating. He lets me be me and loves me for that.”

“Do you still think it’s a rebound thing?”

“No. I’ve done some serious soul searching, and all I could come up with is yeah, Frog number one should have been the jumping off board, but why dive again when I’m already over my head in love?”

Marisol sat her cup down and leaned forward to garner my full attention. “Take a chance. Don’t be afraid and risk happiness for the sake of obeying the post-divorce books.”

I rubbed my forehead, letting her words sink in.

“Call him.”

I glanced at her.

“Better yet, go see him.”

Do you have a story about you and your best friend? An embarrassing moment? Mine involves a fender bender in high school. I wasn’t driving, but distracting my friend singing Elvira at the top of my lungs. I had her laughing so hard, she ran into this guy’s truck. Ironically, this guy also had such crush on her! That came in handy because he never lifted a brow about the little scratched on his pride and joy. Are there any touching stories you’d like to share? I’d love to hear about them!

Length: Novella

Anna Ryan is a woman on a mission. She’s sassy, pretty, petite, and ready to reenter the dating world after a messy divorce. She will kiss a few frogs, but that’s okay because she needs the practice. As a romance author, one would think she knows about sex. Sure, she can bump and grind, but what she desires is passion – hot, steamy, mind-blowing chemistry.

She capitalizes on the instantaneous lust with Chase Harris, deciding he is Frog #1. Sucking up her anxiety, she proposes a plan no man can refuse – sex with no strings, no commitment, and complete control. The catch is he must teach her “to make love” and do it for the next twelve days, a Christmas present to herself. The confirmed playboy is intrigued by the idea and takes it a step further by using the traditional carol The Twelve Days of Christmas to illustrate each lesson.

Anna needs to sow some wild oats so that means letting him go, even if Chase says he loves her. Bachelors talk a good game, so why does the intense look in his eyes have to be so real? Like he means it? Like she is…the one?

Publisher’s Note: This book contains explicit sexual situations, graphic language, and material that some readers may find objectionable: anal play.

Great post. I am lucky that I have maintained a great friendship with my besttie since we were in junior high school! They are many times she has saved my butt and I think I’ve helped her out a few times too! We live in different states and have other friends to lean on too but Deb is always there without judgement and I am truly grateful. Without her, I wouldn’t be sober today.

congrats on your first release! You only get one of those. Your story sounds sexy hot and I love that it is going with the 12 days of christmas. Fortunately for me my best friend is my sister and we have had our share of trouble and stories. Too many to count but I would do anything for her.

  10. Thanks again, Kathy, for letting me hang out at your awesome blog!
