Summary:

Wealthy, attractive Lucas Reika treats life like a party, moving from bar to bar and man to man. Thumbing his nose at his restaurateur father’s demand that he earn his keep, Lucas instead seduces a valued employee in the kitchen of their flagship restaurant, earning himself an ultimatum: lose access to his father’s money or stay in the middle of nowhere with a man he has secretly lusted over from afar.

Quiet, hard-working Jared McFarland loves his farm on the outskirts of Hope, Arizona, but he aches to have someone to come home to at the end of the day. Jared agrees to take in his longtime crush as a favor. But when Lucas invades his heart in addition to his space, Jared has to decide how much of himself he’s willing to risk and figure out if he can offer Lucas enough to keep him after his father’s punishment is over.

The Review:

McFarland’s Farm by Cardeno C. is the first sweet yet very steamy novella in the Hope series. This quick read has fabulous main characters whose long standing association provides a firm foundation for their relationship when they unexpectedly fall in love.

Lucas Reika and Jared McFarland are complete opposites in pretty much every way. Lucas is a twenty-four year old recent college graduate and in the beginning, he is spoiled, rude and self-absorbed. This city boy is into the party scene and he has no shortage of sexual experience. Jared is in his early thirties and he lives a quiet life on his organic farm. He is a little shy and a bit socially awkward but he is pretty well-grounded. All of their differences set the stage for the perfect opposites attract romance.

Despite their differences, Lucas and Jared are compatible and they bring out the best in one another. Both men find unexpected contentment in their simple evenings and it takes a while for them to realize their attraction to one another is mutual. Once their relationship goes beyond friendship, their sex scenes are deliciously sensual and quite erotic.

McFarland’s Farm by Cardeno C. is a light, angst free novella. The story has very little conflict and when misunderstandings do arise, they are quickly resolved. The characters are well-developed with realistic insecurities and flaws. The romance is believable and the sex scenes are incredibly hot. All in all, it is a wonderful first installment in the Hope series that will leave fans eagerly awaiting future releases.
