For today’s stop on the A Cowboy’s Christmas Promise, Maggie McGinnis graciously answered a few “get to know you” questions for us.
Kathy: Welcome to Book Reviews & More by Kathy!
Thanks so much for hosting me today! I’m so excited to celebrate the release of A Cowboy’s Christmas Promise with you!
Kathy: What book do you recommend everyone should read? Do you have a comfort read?
Maggie: Oh, gosh. I don’t think it’s possible to narrow my recommendations or comfort reads down to a list that would fit here. J I adore Kristan Higgins, Shannon Stacey, and Christie Craig when I need a laugh, Julia Quinn when I want to return to another time, and Hank Phillippi Ryan for an edge-of-my-seat read. All of these ladies are super-smart and crazy-talented, and I know they bring the goods with every single book. In fact, I have a pile of books on my desk right now that’s serving as my carrot to finish my current manuscript, and all five of these lovely authors are in that stack!
Kathy: What is your guilty pleasure?
Maggie: My favorite guilty pleasure is sneaking away for a weekend with a best girlfriend or two … or eight. A few days of great conversation, yummy food, and uninterrupted sleep fuel me up like nothing else. Then, of course, there’s the chocolate. We have THE best getaway-chocolate.
Kathy: Favorite meal?
Maggie: Anything cooked by someone else! J I love a good steak cooked on the grill, but my mom’s chicken cacciatore is pretty much to-die-for. For years, I’ve tried to learn how to make it, but apparently I’m missing both the cooking gene AND the Italian gene.
Kathy: If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?
Maggie: I’m trying to choose between NASCAR driver and downhill ski racer, but unfortunately, I’m rather fond of my limbs. However, if someone could devise a super-extractor that would pull me out of the car or off the hill JUST before I crashed, I’d be totally in. On my less delusional days, I think about returning to teaching, but I have too much respect for my own sanity to follow through. Usually.
Kathy: If you could time travel, what time period would you visit?
Maggie: I’d love to say I’d go way, way back, but I’m a big fan of penicillin, so I’d prefer sometime after 1928, I guess! That said, I do find the pioneer era hugely intriguing. To be on a wagon train, to set foot on a piece of land so far from anything I’d ever known, to be among people with such courage and strength of purpose … it would all be fascinating. But honestly? Penicillin rocks, as does my washing machine. I should probably stay right where I am.
Kathy: Thank you so much for chatting with us today!
Maggie: Thanks so much for having me, Kathy!

Title: A Cowboy’s Christmas Promise by Maggie McGinnis
Publisher: Loveswept
Genre: Contemporary, Romance
Length: 280 pages
Summary:
In a captivating novel spiced with holiday magic—perfect for fans of Rachel Gibson, Susan Mallery, and Molly O’Keefe—a rugged Montana man mends a Northeast girl’s jaded heart.
Boston veterinarian Hayley Scampini tends the city’s pampered pets but dreams of the rural life of a country vet. She’s single and determined to stay that way, convinced that love isn’t permanent enough to trust. Then a vacation to the Whisper Creek dude ranch introduces her to Daniel McKee, a sexy single dad who runs the kind of veterinary practice she aspires to—and rattles her conviction to keep men at a distance.
Managing a thriving practice, coping with the loss of his wife, and fighting a custody battle with his in-laws over his twin daughters, Daniel couldn’t be more overwhelmed. Hayley is a godsend, accompanying him in the field and winning over his girls. It doesn’t take Daniel long to realize he’s falling for this woman, hard and fast. So before Hayley returns to Boston, he extracts a promise: that she will return to Whisper Creek for Christmas. It’s the perfect time and place to show Hayley that the promise of a beautiful life together is something she can believe in.
