Time to check in and see how everyone did with July’s Reading Challenge to read a Book in a Series You Have Been Following.
My selection was Midtown Masters, the third book in Cara McKenna’s Sins in the City series.
Well, I have to say I ended up with mixed feelings on this installment. Nobody writes hotter sex scenes than Cara McKenna and Midtown Masters had plenty of sizzling encounters. However, the set up felt a bit contrived and some of the characters weren’t very well developed. The plot reminded me a bit of another novel that I read by a different author and that hint of familiarity was distracting. I don’t regret reading Midtown Masters but I was a little disappointed that I didn’t feel like it was as well written as Cara McKenna’s other novels.
Now it’s your turn! Did you complete your challenge? Did you like the book you chose?
I read Draakenwood, the latest in the Whyborne and Griffin series by Jordan L Hawk
I do enjoy the humour that JLH gets into these books – Ival’s reluctance to embrace modern tech – whilst still finding horrid creatures to throw at us.
Ival and Griffin’s relationship shows the deep care they have for each other but in this installment it was definitely secondary to the horrors unleashed. Lots of hooks for the next book. Enjoyed lots.
Yay! I’m glad the series is a good one!
I missed this one somehow
