Time to check in and see how everyone did with September’s Reading Challenge to read a book that you bought on sale for $2 or less.
I chose Lisa Jewell’s British mystery, I Found You and wow! It is an utterly fantastic novel. It is very fast-paced with great characters and the mystery element is wonderfully done. I love a mystery where the author keeps me guessing right until the end so I was delighted by the unexpected conclusion. If you’re a mystery lover, I highly recommend it.
Now it’s your turn! Did you complete your challenge? Did you like the book you chose?
Untouchable, A Blake Harte Mysteries Book, 1 by Robert Innes. Rated 3.5*
Well this was a charming cosy, closed room murder-mystery. I was expecting a bit more from the rave reviews but I enjoyed it, will read the others in the series. Maybe longer treatment would have given the depth I wanted.
The premise is that Blake Harte moves from inner city policing in Manchester to the dales on the outskirts – a whole new environment for him! So this was a lot of set up for the series – describing the place, adding characters, giving Blake his background and setting up a whiff of romance for him.
As a British reader I enjoyed the settings, the local references, the dialogue and could relate to British police TV series.
And I have put your read onto my library list – they do usually stock Lisa Jewell books, glad it was a good read!
Ooooh, I am going to check out Untouchable!
I am a fan of Lisa Jewell so I was pretty sure I’d like I Found You and I was thrilled it was just as good as I’d hoped it would be 🙂
