Classic Lit Gets a Queer Twist – A New Series from Riptide Publishing

Award-Winning LGBTQ Press Riptide Publishing Brings

Diverse Modern Twists to Classic Literature

Welcome to Classics Queered–modern retellings of our favorite classics by some of your favorite LGBTQ+ authors, where the guy gets the guy, the girl gets the girl, and queer people always get a happily ever after.

Love has long been the language of classic literature. From Pride and Prejudice to My Fair Lady to Les Miserables, each of these beloved stories features, at its core, two people coming together. But in the stories we studied as children and adore as adults, the central couple is straight. LGBTQ+ people have existed throughout history, but in Western classics, they’ve been erased or, worse, killed or made the villains of the piece. That ends now.

Classics Queered was conceived by Riptide’s Editorial Director, Sarah Lyons, who holds a PhD in British Literature and is an Austen scholar. Disappointed by yet another modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice in which queer characters were marginalized and villainized, she imagined a whole series of retellings of classic literature that centralized queer characters.

The series launches May 28, 2018, and will feature nine LGBTQ retellings by year’s end, with more to come in 2019. The first three installments are available for pre-order:

The California Dashwoods by Lisa Henry, May 28
