Friday Feature, Interview & Giveaway: Then There Was You by Miranda Liasson

Kathy:  Thank you so much for chatting with us today. Can you tell us a little about your new release, Then There Was You?

Ms. Liasson: Hi Kathy! First of all, thanks so much for having me! Then There Was You is a heartwarming, humorous enemies-to-lovers romance with a bit of a second-chance romance element, between two people who seem at first to be real opposites. Sara Langdon is a family doctor returning to her hometown to spend more time with her beloved grandmother, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and to practice with her father. It’s been a year after she was jilted by her fiancé—something she blames on Colton, her ex’s best friend, as she feels he allowed the bachelor party to get out of control enough that her fiancé ended up with the girl who jumped out of the cake. She and Colton have a long history of antagonism between them; however he’s grown up and become the steadfast, dependable Angel Falls police chief. While Sara was the quiet, myopic bookish type in high school, he was a popular, handsome-devil football star, and a bit of a jerk to Sara. But a lot has changed…he’s not at all the guy Sara thinks he is. There two have a lot to discover about one another!

Kathy: What do you think Sara Langdon’s and Colton’s Walker’s best traits are? What would you consider to be their worst?

Ms. Liasson:  Colton has a heart of gold. He proves over and over again that he’s not the same guy that he was way back when. Sara does everything in her life to the best of her ability—she’s a kindhearted doctor, daughter, granddaughter, and sister. As far as their worst traits…both of them know EXACTLY how to push one another’s buttons. But that comes from knowing exactly what the other’s sore spots are. The great part of this is neither one lets the other get away with that special character flaw that is holding each of them back from being the best person they each could be.

Kathy: What inspired your Angel Falls series?

Ms. Liasson:  I was dying to do an enemies-to-lovers romance, and I got to create a brand new small-town setting that I based on a beautiful village outside of Cleveland.

Kathy:  What made you choose a small town as the series setting?

Ms. Liasson:  I really enjoy writing about family and friends in the context of an interesting quirky small town setting. This small town happens to be located in Ohio, my home state. I was thrilled when my editor let me run with it!

Kathy: Do you work from an outline while writing your novels? How closely do the finished novels fit your original vision of the characters and storyline before you begin writing?

Ms. Liasson:  I write from a synopsis and detailed notes, but they are ever-changing, as my characters tend to sometimes throw me a curveball and make their own twists and turns! (Which is actually what I love about writing!) My editor’s input helps to shape the final story as well. She has the experience to know how to plot a great romance inside and out and the advantage of knowing what works in the market right now.

Kathy:  What project(s) are you currently working on?

Ms. Liasson:  I am working on Sara’s sister’s story right now. Gabby is a lawyer who’s really good at making other people happy but is having less success with her own life. She’s tried a lot of different things as far as career explorations and has finally settled into practicing law… until she signs up for a writing class at the local college with a distractingly sexy professor who’s also a bestselling author—and is everything she’s determined to avoid. I’m also plotting Rafe and Kaitlyn’s story. Rafe (Sara’s baby brother) is a tall, handsome, and charming firefighter who is determined not to love again, and Kaitlyn is the woman who’s loved him forever and just might know him better than he knows himself.
