Summary:

There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, His & Hers. Which means someone is always lying.

When a woman is murdered in Blackdown, a quintessentially British village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Detective Jack Harper is suspicious of her involvement, until he becomes a suspect in his own murder investigation.

Someone isn’t telling the truth, and some secrets are worth killing to keep.

His & Hers is a twisty, smart, psychological thriller. A gripping tale of suspense, told by expertly-drawn narrators that will keep readers guessing until the very end.

Review:

His & Hers by Alice Feeny is a brilliantly plotted mystery that is fast-paced and compelling.

London news correspondent Anna Andrews reluctantly accepts her latest assignment. Returning to her claustrophobic hometown Blackdown, Anna arrives at the scene of a murder where, despite her unease, she remains collected and professional. Detective Chief Inspector Jack Harper is not at all pleased that Anna pushes boundaries and attempts to charm Detective Priya Patel into providing her with information. Anna wants nothing more than to return to London, but when another murder rocks Blackdown, she begins to realize that there is more to these crimes than anyone realizes. With personal ties to story she is reporting, will Anna find out the killer’s identity before it is too late?

Twenty years ago, Anna left Blackdown and never looked back.  She works hard and tries to avoid dwelling on her past.  But coming back to Blackdown means dealing with her ailing mother and their somewhat complicated history.  With increasing dread and agitation,  Anna cannot avoid the memories that she has worked so hard to suppress. As the bodies begin to pile up, Anna does not know whom to trust as she tries to figure who could be responsible for the murders.

Jack is keeping secrets of his own that could affect the investigation if discovered. However, trying to keep this information under wraps amid an intense scrutiny coupled with long hours and little sleep begin to take an unexpected toll.  Unable to trust his judgment, Jack casts a suspicious eye on both Anna and someone else close to the case.  As the murders take a heart achingly personal turn, will Jack and Patel unmask the killer before they strike again?

His & Hers is a deliciously intriguing mystery with plenty of suspense. Anna and Jack are complex characters who are vibrantly developed.  The storyline is fiendishly clever and the tension ratchets higher with each shocking revelation.  With fiendish twists and diabolical turns,  Alice Feeny brings this edge of the seat mystery to an absolutely jaw-dropping conclusion. An incredibly unpredictable and engrossing mystery that I loved and highly recommend.
