July’s Reading Challenge was to read a novel in which the author’s first or last name begins with a letter in “JULY”.
I selected The Foundling by Ann Leary.
Do you ever find yourself believing you know the worst atrocity your government has perpetuated upon its citizens? Well, reading The Foundling I discovered that there is no “worst” because there is always going to be something to top the last “worst”.
I don’t want to ruin the plot so my thoughts about The Foundling will be kept to a minimum. The characters are well-drawn and true to the time period. The storyline is heartrending but very well-written. The conviction of certain characters is particularly galling since it is now known just how horribly wrong and cruel their actions are. Ann Leary does an exellent job bringing a forgotton time in American vividly and poignantly to live. I highly recommend this informative novel.

I read Freefall (or Look for Me) by Jessica Barry
I found it entertaining and easy to read – good holiday read(I never got the ‘must finish’ urge so ok to pick up when ready again). The alternating chapters between Ally and her Mum Maggie gradually fill in the story/background and kept it pacy.
Ally gets sucked into a false life that looks glam, but the shine wears thin quickly and her do good character shows through when she gets involved in finding out what is going on with her fiancées drug company. This leads to the crash, the chase, the survival and Maggie finding out almost as much.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it. It is one of my favorite reads.
