Book Talk: Let’s Discuss…Book Series

Are you a fan of series (I LOVE them)? Or are you someone that doesn’t care for them (please tell us what turns you off of them)? Or do you not feel strongly about them either way (let us know what draws you to or turns you away from a series)?

If you read series, do you prefer to start at the beginning? Or will you just jump in when you discover one? I prefer to start with the first book but I don’t hesitate to start a new series in the middle. If I like it enough, I will purchase the previous books too. If the books are only loosely connected, I don’t always read the entire series. Some books might interest me more than others so I tend to like reading a series that shares a common setting instead of interconnected storylines or characters.

My least favorite series are ones that end on cliffhangers and you have to wait for another book to release to find out what happens next. If I know ahead of time the first (or second) book leaves readers hanging, I’ll wait until the complete series is available before I begin reading it.

    I love a series!
I like to read in order, even if they are standalone but I do prefer same or related MC’s so we can follow developments. Some of my favourites – Whyborne and Griffin, Plumbers Mate, Magpie Lord, Tyack & FrayneLindenshaw Mysteries, Chronicles of St Marys, Erika Foster, Snow and Winter (CSPoe in general!), Daniel Owen, Drag Queen Detective (and Pinx Video), Crofton, Jimmy McSwain.

Currently reading Criminal Intentions by Cole McCade as I mentioned earlier – though at 29 books and counting, it will be a full on commitment!! especially as I am only up to book6

I do enjoy catching up with characters from previous books, but if it’s a long time between books, I forget who’s who LOL!!

I have the Plumbers Mate and Lindenshaw Mysteries series. I need to read them! Now I have some extra time, I’ll make a point of reading them!
