September’s Reading Challenge Discussion

September’s Reading Challenge was to read a book with a colorful cover.

I selected Better the Blood by Michael Bennett and wowza! I loved it so much I gave it 5 stars on Goodreads.

Better the Blood is a New Zealand mystery which takes place in Auckland. Hana Westerman and the rest of her team are investigating a series of murders that she eventually believes are the work of a serial killer. She is an exceptionally intuitive detective who is uniquely suited to be leading this case. Hana’s search for the killer will set her on a collision course with an event from her past that forces her to examine something she has worked very hard to forget.

The cover is certainly colorful but it hints at New Zealand’s dark past. Annnd, that’s all I’m going to say about that!

Better the Blood really resonated with so I’m pretty biased with my higher than usual recommendation that mystery lovers read it.

I read How Lulu Lost Her Mind by Rachel Gibson.
It is a few years since I have an RG novel, and she hasn’t lost her light comedic touch!
However, main theme of a parent with dementia is well handled. It is a love story – between Lulu and her mum. Any possible romance between Lulu and Simon is bye the bye until everything with her mum is resolved.
Enjoyed it a lot – may go and reread by actual books I have of hers!!

I am so glad to hear you liked it! And it inspired you to maybe read previous books of hers.

She’s been an author I’ve enjoyed quite a bit over the years.
