Kathy: Do you have a favorite book or author you like to recommend? Do you have a comfort read?
Taylor Jenkins Reid is an auto-buy for me. Her books are so warm, funny and thoughtful—I just love them. And she herself is one of the most lovely humans ever.
Kathy: What is your guilty pleasure?
The Bachelor. My husband and a few of his friends—yes, his guy friends—and their wives and I always do these epic live-post threads on one of the friends’ Facebook pages every week. It’s like a duel to see who can be quickest on the draw with the reaction jokes. We also do a betting pool on which contestants we think will win, which, as of this writing, I am currently losing.
Kathy: Favorite meal?
It’s so hard to pick just one, because I really love food; but I guess my favorite celebration meal would be a dinner with my husband at our favorite steakhouse, including a filet mignon rare. It is a possibly surprising fact about me that I like my steaks practically mooing.
Kathy: If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?
If not a writer or designer, then a photographer. I follow a bunch of them on Instagram and I’m so jealous of how much they get to travel.
Kathy: If you could time travel, what time period would you visit?
Tudor England. I’ve been a huge Tudor nerd since I was a kid. But basically any era involving petticoats and drafty old houses would work for me.
Kathy: Can you tell us a little about The One That Got Away?
It’s a love story about a young architect whose old flame moseys back into her life years after he evaporated from it; by which point she is happy in a warm and fulfilling relationship. And it’s also a story about knowing yourself, and the importance of choosing a relationship with someone who truly knows you and values you.
Kathy: What projects are you working on now? Any other projected releases for 2015?
Nothing else for 2015, but I have several books in the works for the future. My problem is I love them all so much I get so impatient and just want to write them all NOW.
Kathy: Thank you so much for chatting with us today! Congratulations on the the release of The One That Got Away. I absolutely LOVED the book and I cannot wait for for the Eamon’s brother’s book!
Title: The One That Got Away by Bethany Chase
Publisher: Ballantine Books
Genre: Contemporary, Romance
Length: 352 pages
Summary:
Perfect for fans of Emily Giffin and Jennifer Weiner, this bright, funny debut from a fresh voice in fiction offers a delicious take on love, family, and what it means to build a home of one’s own.
Sarina Mahler thinks she has her life all nailed down: a growing architecture practice in Austin, Texas, and an any-day-now proposal from her loving boyfriend, Noah. She’s well on her way to having the family she’s hoped for since her mother’s death ten years ago. But with Noah on a temporary assignment abroad and retired Olympic swimmer—and former flame—Eamon Roy back in town asking her to renovate his new fixer-upper, Sarina’s life takes an unexpected turn. Eamon proves to be Sarina’s dream client, someone who instinctively trusts every one of her choices—and Sarina is reminded of all the reasons she was first drawn to him back in the day. Suddenly her carefully planned future with Noah seems a little less than perfect. And when tragedy strikes, Sarina is left reeling. With her world completely upended, she is forced to question what she truly wants in life—and in love.
Full of both humor and heartbreak, The One That Got Away is the story of one woman’s discovery that, sometimes, life is what happens when you leave the blueprints behind.
