Anchor Point – the Final Chapter
The release of Sink or Swim is bittersweet for me. I love the story—I think it’s my personal favorite from the series—but it’s the final book in a series I had a blast writing. It’s strange and difficult to say goodbye to Anchor Point, NAS Adams, and the cast of characters from these eight books.
The series began while I was bored on a plane ride in early 2016. I had written a number of standalone military romances, but I wanted to write a series set on the same base with different couples in each book. Kind of like Bluewater Bay or Tucker Springs, just with one author. At some point on that trip, somewhere between Spain and Norway, I came up with the town of Anchor Point and the base, NAS Adams.
I wanted these books to be sexy contemporary romances, but also get into some of the real issues facing service members:
Just Drive dealt with the toll a long military career takes on not only the service member, but their dependents.
Afraid to Fly touched on the long term physical toll, particularly on those who’ve been injured, and also got into the serious psychological trauma that is an ignored reality of drone pilots.
Chief’s Mess was all about how active duty life can not only fuel addictions, it can make them extraordinarily easy to hide.
Rank & File addressed fraternization along with the pressures of being from a multigeneration military family with high expectations.
Going Overboard got into the risks faced by service members even outside of combat zones, and the lengths superiors will go to in order to protect their own hides after a mishap.
Once Burned was a bit of a passion project for me. After learning that immigrant veterans are at risk of deportation even after they’ve served, I was outraged, and wrote Diego’s story to shed some light on this horrifying reality. Half of my royalties for Once Burned benefit an organization in Tijuana that helps deported veterans.
Wash Out focused on living with combat related PTSD, as well as recovering from a career-altering and life-changing injury.
And finally, Sink or Swim is about DADT, being Muslim in the post-9/11 military, and LGBT service members finding support within the ranks.
So, it’s been an emotional ride, and also a bit of a technical one, since it’s important to me to be as authentic as possible with military regulations and culture. Fortunately, I’ve lived on or around Navy bases for the past 15 years, and my husband helped me with a lot of the technical details. I interviewed a drone pilot along the way, and picked the brains of service members from our current base and previous ones. Every book has certainly been an education!
But every series must come to an end, and with the release of the eighth book, well, here we are.
I’m not completely closing the door on Anchor Point, though. While it was meant from the start to be an eight-book series, there is currently a female/female spinoff in the works under my alter ego, Lauren Gallagher. In fact, you’ll meet two of those characters in Sink or Swim. I have no idea when they’ll be finished or released, but keep an eye on my website and social media for updates!
Title: Sink or Swim by L.A. Witt
Anchor Point Series Book Eight
Genre: Contemporary, Gay, Erotic, Romance
Length: 340 pages/Word Count: 90,000
Summary:
When need meets fear, can two very different men find common ground?
Alhazar Bukhari spent his Navy career in the closet. Now he’s retired, divorced, and hungry for the love he’s never had a chance to experience. He tries to put his faith in Allah to bring the right man into his life, but it’s hard to be patient after all this time.
Chaplain Dylan Pedersen spends his days counseling Sailors, and his nights with men he doesn’t know. Months after finally escaping an abusive relationship, he’s terrified of anything more than a physical connection. Maybe it’s a sin, but he’s too lonely to not let men into his bed, and too scared to let them into his heart.
When Alhazar’s civilian job brings him aboard the USS Fort Stevens, and his daily prayers bring him into Dylan’s chapel, the chemistry is instantaneous. Sex and friendship quickly evolve into more, but Dylan’s too haunted by his recent past to be the man Alhazar wants. Alhazar needs love, Dylan needs time, and if they can’t find some sort of balance, they’ll sink before they ever have a chance to swim.

Author Bio
L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who has finally been released from the purgatorial corn maze of Omaha, Nebraska, and now spends her time on the southwestern coast of Spain. In between wondering how she didn’t lose her mind in Omaha, she explores the country with her husband, several clairvoyant hamsters, and an ever-growing herd of rabid plot bunnies. She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don’t tell Lauren. And definitely don’t tell Lori A. Witt or Ann Gallagher. Neither of those twits can keep their mouths shut…
