Friday Feature & Character Interview: Lincoln’s Park by Parker Williams

Character Interview Questions for Noel Simmons

  1. What did you want to be when you were a kid?

This is going to be a trite answer, but all I wanted was to be happy. Growing up, I knew I was gay, and I thought the world had changed, and that I could find someone to give me what I needed from life.

Of course, the day my father got the mail and went ballistic over me being gay? That pretty much cut that dream short.

  1. What do you value the most in your friends?

Honesty and integrity. When I was in school, we all had the same types of friends. We were close, but not usually family-close, if you know what I mean. When I met Robert Kotke and the residents of the shelter? That’s when I found out what true friendship meant. I was stunned to find out that those who had nothing were always willing to give of themselves. I wanted to emulate that.

And then I met Lincoln and Katy. Neither of them were out to get something from me. They showed me what life was like when you had a true family at your back.

  1. What is your favorite song?

Okay, this is embarrassing. I admit that my taste in music has changed over the years, but there’s one song out there that I will always sing to whenever I hear it on the radio. Wannabe by the Spice Girls.

You don’t know how many times I danced in front of the mirror, singing this at the top of my lungs. *laughs* If my parents didn’t figure it out from that…

  1. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I’ll be honest here. Before I met Lincoln, I wanted to be manlier. I didn’t want to be girly acting—my father’s words, not mine and sure as hell not ones Lincoln accepted when he found out—but after meeting Lincoln and discovering who I am, I don’t think there’s anything about me I’ll change.

  1. What word or phrase do you overuse?

If I had to choose, I’d say sir, but then again, I’m constantly calling Lincoln that, and it’s not even BDSM related. It’s respect. He took me when I was at my lowest point and brought me back up to where I learned to like myself again.

Of course, there’s still the whole BDSM thing between us, so sir seems to work in either way.

Summary:

A Links In the Chain Story

Lincoln Merriweather was born an entitled brat with a silver spoon lodged so deep, it might never have come out. At the BDSM club or in business, Lincoln was a storm, blowing in and disrupting the lives of everyone he touched, until the day he met a man who peeled away the tarnished layers to expose a decent person.

Lincoln found—then lost—love.

Since then, he’s tried to atone for his past, including walking away from his family’s wealth. He opened a diner, hiring people to work for him that he would have spit on before his epiphany. He’s found peace, which he’s about to lose to a hazel-eyed man.

Noel Simmons wound up on the street when his parents discovered he was gay. His path leads him to Lincoln’s diner, where he asks for a job. He’s thrilled when Lincoln agrees to hire him, but finds his new boss perplexing. Can anyone be this kind and decent?

What starts out as business becomes something more. Noel discovers he needs Lincoln in order to feel safe. Lincoln needs Noel to complete him. But when Lincoln’s past gets in the way of his present, will the two have a future?
