Title: The Aftermath of Drifting Away by Audrey Beaudoin
Fate Series Book One
Publisher: Audrey Beaudoin
Genre: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Length: 360 pages
Summary:
We survived the plane crash.
We survived days on a raft in the middle of the ocean. Right when all hope to get rescued crumbled, we shared a kiss that left me heartbroken―my first and last kiss.
Or so I thought. Because we didn’t die.
My plan is to never see Chris Ross again. To keep hanging out with his sister without crossing his path. Getting my life back together and working on my goals are the only things that matter. I have plans, and they don’t include love.
But then he shows up at my workplace, asking for my friendship. When I learn something that changes everything, I’m determined to stay away and not let myself fall for him.
Too bad he’s persistent. Too bad I can’t stop thinking about the damn kiss. Too bad it’s nice having him around and being his friend.
If things were to change, they could get really complicated…
The Aftermath of Drifting Away is a sweet contemporary forbidden romance. It is the first book in the Fate series that can be read as a stand-alone.

“Okay,” he says, pulling me back into the conversation. “But don’t forget that life’s short.”
I blink twice. “Why would you say that?”
Chris steps forward and leans toward my ear. I keep my eyes on the framed pictures on the wall. “I’m just saying. I’m done pretending and trying my goddamn best to keep a reasonable distance between us because we’re friends. I want to be both your friend and the person who gets to hold you and kiss you and grab your hand in public because I’m a hundred percent certain it’d feel right.”
I am going to have a heart attack.
“Just…don’t wait,” he concludes, leaning away with a sorrow expression that catches me off guard. “We almost died once, thinking we had our entire life ahead of us.”
I nod, a lump forming in my throat. He heads to the door and opens it. Before leaving, his eyes graze over my t-shirt with a glimpse of amusement. “I like it.”
I’m wearing a Mickey Mouse t-shirt.
At least that makes the tension evaporates. I rub my eyes and shake my head. “You need to leave now. Goodnight.”
He laughs softly. “Goodnight.”
As soon as the door closes behind him, I fall on my couch and grip my head with both hands. What the hell just happened?
