Tour Stop, Excerpt & Giveaway: Backup Offer by Liz Crowe

Title: Backup Offer by Liz Crowe
Stewart Realty Series Book Nine
Publisher:
Genre: Contemporary, Romance
Length: 212 pages

Summary:

An ex-boyfriend, his massive dog, her house, and no hotel room in sight. What could go wrong?

After Blair ended things with Brandis, she was determined to get away–and stay away from him for good. She put family, friends, and the life she knew in Michigan in her rear view mirror and started over. As owner and head chef of her own place in Louisville, she stays plenty busy, especially since “Blair’s Kitchen” is the darling of the restaurant scene. She’s managed to avoid Michigan for almost a decade, but when her best friend needs her help, she drops everything and heads home.

Brandis has spent the last ten years coming to terms with addiction, personal tragedy, and the loss of the woman he loved. He’s now the third generation to run his family’s construction business, and he’s managed to reconstruct tattered relationships with his family. He’s even adopted a dog, thanks to some donated renovation time spent at an animal shelter. He’s got everything he needs—except a for one thing.

When the contractor she paid to build her restaurant’s expansion vanishes, leaving her with a giant mess, Blair only hesitates a moment before calling Brandis for help. But when he rushes to her side to evaluate the crisis, there isn’t an available room in a twenty mile radius. So they settle in to a routine—her, her one-time boyfriend, and his giant, slobbering dog in her small house. It doesn’t take long for the temptation of close proximity to give way, and while Blair tries to keep it all physical, Brandis has other ideas.

The end of the Stewart Realty saga brings the second generation full-circle in ways many never expected, and no one regrets.

Excerpt

Blair’s wild, chaotic dreams woke her, confused, sweaty and breathless but freezing cold and shivering at the same time. Brandis pulled her into the warm cocoon of covers with mumbled, soothing words. She wasn’t sure she’d get back to sleep, until she was, snoozing so hard when she woke and found her bed and apartment empty of any sign of either man or dog, she figured she must have dreamed the entire last three weeks of her stupid life.

He’d made coffee, and left a note propped up on the box of Pop tarts. She sat, drank the perfect cup, and stared at his words. He’d kept it simple and straight to the point.

Blair,

When I said I loved you, that I would love no one else but you, I wasn’t lying. When I told you I wanted to make love to you, to kiss you after the last three weeks of (really great) fucking, I meant it.

But I’m not interested in being your fuck buddy. I want to be more. And you’ve made it clear I can’t be. So, this is me, leaving. I’ve turned your project over to a local construction manager I trust. He’ll bill me, and I’ll figure out what part of it you owe me once they finish the addition.

You once advised me—advised us both—to move on, to find something or someone else. I think it’s time I took your advice.

I will always be.

Your friend,

Brandis.

She crumpled the note until it was a tiny ball clutched in her tight fist, picked up a pillow, and screamed into it until her throat was hoarse. Then she grabbed her phone and found the first person she could think of who might listen. But she stopped before hitting the call icon on her phone’s screen. Lillian would listen, of course. She had for a lot of years. Blair needed someone with a different perspective, someone who hadn’t lived through all the drama and trauma and yet more drama on top of trauma. She needed someone more subjective about Brandis Gordon.

So she made a different call.

“Hey Blair,” Grace said. “What’s up?”

“I fucked up, that’s what.”

“How so?”

“How much time do you have?”

“L.O.L, girlfriend. I have all the time in the world. Spill it. And don’t you dare spare any fun details.”
