Kathy: Author Cindy Nord has stopped by to chat with us today about her newly release historical romance No Greater Glory. Thank you for taking time out of your busy question to answer a few questions for us.
I always have to begin by asking what motivated you to become a writer? How long have you been writing, and was it a long process to become a published author?
Ms. Nord: I began NO GREATER GLORY on New Year’s Eve 1979, but didn’t get serious with my writing until the story became a Golden Heart finalist in 2008. I landed my agent in 2010 and she secured a contract with Samhain for me in 2011.
Kathy: What is a typical day like as author Cindy Nord. Do you write every day? How long does it take you to complete the novel’s first draft?
Ms. Nord: I have completed two novels and am currently working on my third. Monday through Friday I enter my office by 7:30 a.m., do my social marketing on FB & Twitter until around noon, and then I write on my novel until around 5:00 p.m. I leave the weekends open for socializing with my husband.
Kathy: What made you chose to write a historical novel? Do you see yourself writing contemporary fiction at any point in your career?
Ms. Nord: I have a great and abiding love for all things historical…and having spent twenty-five + years as a Civil War reenactor, I’m well-versed in all things Victorian. While I enjoy reading contemporary stories, at this point I am more interested in writing only historical love stories.
Kathy: Are you a plotter, a pantster or a combination of both?
Ms. Nord: I am a pantster…I plot as I go along.
Kathy: Where do you come up with your ideas for plots? Real life? Imagination? Or a combination of both?
Ms. Nord: My characters speak to me. I realize that might sounds absurd but it’s true. I see the story in my mind’s eye long before I ever put it upon paper.
Kathy: Can you tell us a little about No Greater Glory?
Ms. Nord: The year is 1862 and the Army of the Potomac is pushing southward. Emaline McDaniels’ plantation, Shapinsay, just happens to lie in their path. She’s struggled to hold on to her late husband’s dreams. Despite the responsibilities resting on her shoulders, she’ll not let anyone wrest away what’s left of her way of life—particularly a Federal cavalry officer who commandeers her land for his winter encampment. With a defiance born of desperation, she defends her home as though it were the child she never had…and no mother gives up her child without a fight.
Despite the brazen wisp of a woman pointing a gun at his head, Colonel Reece Cutteridge has his orders. Requisition Shapinsay—and its valuable livestock—for his regiment’s use, and pay her with Union vouchers. He never expected her fierce determination, then her concern for his wounded, to upend his heart—and possibly his career.
As the armies go dormant for the winter, battle lines are drawn inside the mansion. Yet just as their clash of wills shifts to forbidden passion, the tides of war sweep Reece away. And now their most desperate battle is to survive the war the conflict with their lives—and their love—intact.
Kathy: What projects are you currently working on?
Ms. Nord: I’ve just finished the follow up novel, SAVING CALLIE. And am now researching for my third.
Kathy: I have enjoyed chatting with you today. Is there anything else you would like to share with us before you go?
Ms. Nord: I’m thrilled because the Library Journal (the buying ‘bible’ for all the libraries in the U.S., Canada, & the United Kingdom) has just reviewed NO GREATER GLORY and gave it glowing marks…comparing it as a “steamier Gone With the Wind.” Also, there is a price-war between Amazon and Barnes & Noble and my story is currently offered at only .99cents. The world-wide (English) Audio of NO GREATER GLORY (via iTunes, Amazon Audible, etc) debuts the month of October and the trade paperback follows in June.
Kathy: Ms. Nord, congratulations on the release of No Greater Glory and thank you so much for visiting with us today. Feel free to drop by anytime you happen to be in the neighborhood.
