Review:

K-9 Hideout by Elizabeth Heiter is a fast-moving, suspenseful romance. This newest release is the fourth installment in the K-9 Alaska series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Sabrina Jones has been in Desparre, AK for six months and she is is beginning to feel safe. She has finally relaxed her guard just a bit but she still keeps to herself. But once Sabrina realizes the stalker she has been outrunning has caught up with her again, will she go on the run again?

Tate Emory and his K-9 partner Sitka are a common sight around town. While Sitka has not needed all of the skills she has learned, she puts them to good use once Sabrina goes to the police. And after it becomes obvious that her stalker remains threat, Tate and Sitka do everything they can to protect her.

K-9 Hideout is a well-plotted and engaging mystery. Sabrina and Tate are very resourceful and know how to protect their secrets. But even in a small town like Desparre, danger has a way of catching up when least expected. With unexpected twists, Elizabeth Heiter brings this tension-filled mystery to an exciting conclusion. Old and new fans of the K-9 Alaska series are sure to enjoy this latest installment.

Review:

K-9 Cold Case by Elizabeth Heiter is an intriguing mystery that takes place in the Alaskan bush. This third installment in the K-9 Alaska series can be read as a standalone. But I highly recommend the previous books as well.

Desparre Police Chief Keara Hernandez moved to Alaska to try to put her husband Juan’s murder behind her. She has grown to love the small town and she closely watches over its residents. When a bomb goes off in nearby Luna, Keara’s past comes rushing back when something found at the scene appears to link the current case to Juan’s still unsolved murder. Keara and FBI victim specialist Jax Diall (and his adorable K-9, Patches) work together to try to find the person or persons responsible for the bombing and Juan’s murder.

Keara is attracted to Jax but she does not want her personal interest in him to interfere with their investigation. She hopes that solving Juan’s case will allow her to fully move on. Although his fellow agents doubt her conviction Juan’s murder and the bombings are related, they do give Jax the go-ahead to look their case files. Since he is not an investigator, Jax and Keara go through the case files together in search of  similar cases. With growing excitement, Jax and Keara discover information that backs up their theory. But this new lead is quite puzzling and they continue trying to figure out how this new information can help them unearth the suspect(s)’s identity.

Jax is also interested in Keara, and he finds it difficult to ignore his growing attraction to her.  He mainly succeeds in focusing on the ongoing investigation. Jax becomes a little frustrated with his fellow agents’ skepticism about his and Keara’s theory but he manages to push his irritation aside. Jax cannot quite turn off his psychologist’s mind so he is able to deduce a few things about Keara.  Jax is not the only one in tune with her emotions. His K-9 comfort dog Patches is also quite intuitive and she sticks close to Keara’s side.

K-9 Cold Case is a clever mystery with an interesting storyline. The characters are engaging and their reactions and issues ring true. Patches is a wonderful dog who will steal readers’ hearts. The Alaskan setting springs vibrantly to life.  With an unexpected plot twist, Elizabeth Heiter brings this incredible mystery to a breathtaking conclusion. Old and new fans do not want to miss newest addition to the outstanding K-9 Alaska series.

A K-9 Alaska Novel

Review:

Alaska Mountain Rescue by Elizabeth Heiter is an intriguing romantic suspense novel. While this latest release is the second novel in the K-9 Alaska series, it can be read as a standalone.

Alanna Morgan returns to the small Alaskan town where she was rescued from kidnappers five years earlier.  Darcy Altier, the woman who kidnapped her, has escaped from prison and Alanna believes she can help the police capture her. Alanna has mostly come to terms with her conflicted feelings about Darcy but she is nervous about seeing her again. She is certain she can figure out where Darcy is hiding but the local police are suspicious of her motives for searching for the escapee.

Rookie Police Officer Peter Robak does not trust Alanna’s reasons for trying to find Darcy. He and his partner Tate Emory go out of their way to ensure Alanna is not planning to help her kidnapper evade capture.  But Peter soon realizes he genuinely likes and is possibly beginning to care for Alanna. But his previous experiences leave him doubting he can fully trust her.

Alanna would rather work with the police, but after they brush her off, she begins her search. She starts at the most logical place she thinks Darcy might be.  But finding her kidnapper might be more complicated than Alanna thinks. She also does not count on Peter’s interference or her unexpected attraction to him. With time running out, will Alanna and Peter locate Darcy?

Alaska Mountain Rescue is an engaging romantic suspense novel. Alanna and Peter are beautifully developed characters who are very easy to like. The storyline is well-written and unfolds at a brisk pace.  The Alaskan setting is vibrantly developed and springs vividly to life. With a few unexpected plot twists, Elizabeth Heiter brings this suspenseful mystery to an edge of the seat conclusion.  I highly recommend the K-9 Alaska series to romantic suspense readers.
