Summary:

Portland, Oregon, aka Hotlandia, where the coffee shops, restaurants, and bakeries are ready to serve everything piping hot, fresh, and ready to go—like the hard-working, hard-bodied men behind the counters—with no reservations…

Sure, Chris O’Neal has problems. His restaurant is still co-owned by his ex. His flannel-and-tattoos style is making him accidentally trendy. He can’t remember the last time he went out and had fun. But he’s not lonely, he’s driven. And the hot bakery delivery boy is not his problem, no matter how sweet his buns.

Chris is old enough to know Lance Degrassi’s sculpted good looks and clever double entendres spell nothing but trouble. Lance is still in college—he should be hitting the clubs and the books, chasing guys his own age, not pursuing some gruff motorcycle-riding workaholic. Especially when he’ll be leaving for grad school in a few months. But Lance keeps hanging around, lending a hand, charming Chris to distraction. Maybe some steaming hot no-strings indulgence won’t hurt.

Then again, maybe it will…

Review:

The final installment in Annabeth Albert’s delightful Portland Heat series, Delivered Fast is a very charming older/younger man romance. This fast paced story is sweet yet steamy and blissfully angst free despite a minor obstacle on the road to happily ever after.

Chris O’Neal is taken off guard by his attraction to the very attractive and much younger Lance Degrassi. Chris is in his mid thirties and he has always gone for older men but he just cannot resist the energetic and effervescent young man. The age gap is only about twelve years, but since Lance still has so much of his future ahead of him, Chris cannot commit to a long term relationship with him. After Chris discovers Lance will be moving once he is accepted to grad school, the two agree to a friends-with-benefits arrangement.

Chris is incredibly reluctant to become emotionally involved with anyone but he is immediately charmed by Lance. The two spend a great deal of quality time together but Chris is careful to keep things light and casual between them. Everything is going along just as he wants until Lance considers altering his plans for his future which plays into Chris’s fears that Lance will regret eventually regret his (possible) decision.

Lance is very mature for his age and he has his future all mapped out. He is close to his family and he has a large circle of friends. He is instantly attracted to Chris and Lance never gives Chris’s age a second thought. He agrees to Chris’s suggestion for a no strings relationship, but it is always obvious that Lance cares very deeply for him. Although Lance is willing to make compromises to make their relationship work, Chris’s fears (and lack of communication) might derail their chance for lasting happiness.

Delivered Fast is an engaging, light-hearted romance between two very likable characters. Chris and Lance’s friendship is easygoing and believable. The sex scenes are scorching hot but there is also an underlying tenderness that shows the (unspoken) emotional connection between them. The issues between them are resolved fairly quickly and a lovely epilogue wraps up the remaining loose ends. Another fantastic installment in Annabeth Albert’s marvelous Portland Heat series that old and new fans are sure to enjoy.

Review:

Baked Fresh is the second installment in Annabeth Albert’s delightful Portland Heat series. In this outing, it is Vic Degrassi’s turn to find love after he makes a New Year’s resolution to start dating. His longtime crush Robin Dawson has recently gone through a break up, so Vic proposes a no strings fling since Robin is not interested in dating again. The two men are soon burning up the sheets but will Vic convince Robin to take another risk on love?

Both Vic and Robin bring a lot of baggage into their friends with benefits relationship. Vic is endearingly insecure as he works to overcome his low self-esteem from years of being overweight. Although he has dropped over 100 pounds, Vic is still struggling to see himself as desirable. The recent end to his relationship is the least of Robin’s problems since he is still plagued with issues from his not too distant past. Vic is incredibly patient with Robin as he tries to help him work through his problems but Robin pulls away in the aftermath of a tragic loss.

Vic and Robin’s longstanding acquaintance provides a strong foundation for their current relationship. Robin is refreshingly honest about his past and Vic does not hesitate to offer him some much needed reassurance and support. Although they are quick to begin a sexual relationship, there is also an underlying emotional connection between them as well. Vic respects Robin’s boundaries, but Robin is surprisingly eager to let Vic take control in the bedroom. This takes their sexual relationship a little into D/s territory but this is just what Robin needs to help conquer the lingering effects from his troubled past.

Baked Fresh by Annabeth Albert is a sweet yet scorching hot novella. Robin and Vic are wonderfully developed characters and although flawed, they are very easy to like. Their romance is slow growing but this makes their transition from friends to lovers much more realistic. It is a wonderful, drama free addition to the Portland Heat series that old and new fans are sure to enjoy.

Summary:

In Portland, Oregon, the only thing hotter than the coffee shops, restaurants, and bakeries are the hard-working men who serve it up—hot, fresh, and ready to go—with no reservations…

Robby is a self-employed barista with a busy coffee cart, a warm smile, and a major crush on one of his customers. David is a handsome finance director who works nearby, eats lunch by himself, and expects nothing but “the usual”—small vanilla latte—from the cute guy in the cart. But when David shows up for his first Portland Pride festival, Robby works up the nerve to take their slow-brewing relationship to the next level. David, however, is newly out and single, still grieving the loss of his longtime lover, and unsure if he’s ready to date again. Yet with every fresh latte, sweet exchange—and near hook-up—David and Robby go from simmering to steaming to piping hot. The question is: Will someone get burned?

First in the new Portland Heat series!

Review:

Served Hot is the first installment in Annabeth Albert’s Portland Heat series. This wonderful novella is a super sweet and steamy romance between two men who are a little hesitant to take a chance on love. This fast-paced and engaging read is delightfully heartwarming and I highly recommend it to fans of the genre.

Robert “Robby” Edwards owns a successful coffee cart business and the high point of his day is seeing one of his regular customers, David Gregory. There is something about the handsome, preppy businessman that Robby is drawn to, but since their interactions are strictly business, he is not sure if David is gay.  When the two run into one another at the Portland Pride Festival, Robby finally works up the nerve to take their relationship in a more personal direction. The two begin dating, but the baggage from their respective pasts threatens to destroy their chance at happiness.

Both Robby and David’s previous relationships were with closeted men, so their romance is new territory for both of them. Robby is not usually the aggressor in a relationship and it was a big move on his part to take the first step with David. Robby is a little shy and timid and while he has a definite idea of what he does and does not want in a relationship, he is mostly content to follow where the rock solid and dependable David leads.

While Robby becomes a little discouraged with the slow pace of their romance, he does overlook some of his frustration with David’s inability to fully let him into his life. Robby is sometimes reluctant to voice his dissatisfaction and this leads to misunderstandings that could have been avoided if the two men were better at communicating their needs and desires. Thankfully Robby does finally stand up for himself, but will this be the nudge that David needs to leave the dysfunction of his previous relationship behind him once and for all?

Served Hot by Annabeth Albert is an entertaining and heartfelt love story between two realistic and appealing protagonists. The romance is slow growing but believable and the sex scenes are delectably steamy. All in all, it is an excellent beginning to the Portland Heat series!
