Summary:

Award-winning author Victoria Vane lets loose the fourth in the Hot Cowboy Nights series

WILD HORSES COULDN’T BRING THEM TOGETHER…
With exceptional talent and looks, cowboy “horse whisperer” Keith Russo once had the world at his feet – until his career was unwittingly destroyed by an aspiring filmmaker. After being rejected by his family for exploiting his Native American heritage, Keith has no choice but to turn back to his humble beginnings as a wild horse wrangler.

BUT MAYBE THEIR PASSION CAN…
Miranda Sutton always dreamed of making films, until wild mustangs captured her heart. But turning her grandmother’s Montana ranch into a wild horse sanctuary proves harder than she thought. She needs someone who knows wild horses. Keith and the mustangs need each other. And while working together to save the herd, Keith and Miranda discover a passion as wild as the mustangs they love.

Review:

In Saddle Up, the latest addition to Victoria Vane’s steamy Hot Cowboy Nights series, lead protagonists Keith Russo and Miranda Sutton are dissatisfied with the direction their careers and lives have taken. A BLM mustang roundup is a surprising catalyst for some much needed changes for Miranda but Keith remains at loose ends until their unexpected romance provides him an opportunity to put down roots.

Feeling the sting of rejection from his Native American family, Keith is especially struggling as he tries to figure out where he belongs following his return to the reservation after his career crashed and burned in a spectacular fashion.  Hoping some time away from his family will heal their relationship, Keith reluctantly sings up as a wild horse wrangler for a series of BLM mustang roundups. Miranda is increasingly unhappy with her stalled career as an aspiring filmmaker and she jumps at the chance to film a wild mustang roundup in the Calico Mountains. Keith and Miranda’s paths crossed a year earlier when Miranda filmed a video of one of his training clinics and although she had little control over the film’s final outcome, Keith blames her for tarnishing his reputation as a horse trainer.  Keith is less than thrilled to discover Miranda is once again filming him, but will their night together under the stars change his mind about the attractive videographer?

When Keith learned the truth about his heritage and moved to the reservation, he finally felt like he had found his place in life.  As a teenager he fully embraced everything about the Native American culture and he enjoyed living a simple life with his relatives.  However, as he entered into early adulthood, Keith left the reservation after gaining an impressive reputation as a horse trainer. He greatly enjoyed the perks of fame and fortune and he gradually lost sight of what was most important to him. After a vengeful producer ruins his career, Keith returns home only to discover life on the reservation no longer fits him.  Frustrated by his inability to figure out where he belongs and hurt by his family’s rejection, he reluctantly agrees to help with the mustang roundup only to come face to face with the person he blames for ruining his career.

In the year since meeting Keith, Miranda continues filming commercials while hoping to finally get an assignment that will launch her career.  So when she hears about the job filming the BLM roundup, she knows this could be the opportunity to make a meaningful documentary.  Although she is out of her comfort zone, Miranda is entranced by the mustangs as the wranglers begin the roundup in the stark yet beautiful desert. She is also captivated by Keith’s innate ability to read and communicate with horses. Ignoring his antagonism, Miranda continues filming the roundup and when she finds herself stranded with the sexy wrangler, she slowly wins him over with her plucky attitude.

After spending one magical night together, Keith and Miranda go their separate ways.  Miranda returns to LA but she quickly decides to visit her grandmother’s ranch in Montana. Profoundly affected by the wild mustang’s plight, Miranda convinces her grandmother to turn the family ranch into a wild mustang refuge.  While Miranda is settling into her new endeavor, Keith continues working with the BLM roundup but he remains restless and discontented with his life.  He is increasingly drawn to Miranda and their attraction remains strong, but will his stubborn refusal to accept her job offer ruin their chance at happiness?

Saddle Up is a magnificent addition to the Hot Cowboy Nights series. The storyline is engaging with plenty of depth and substance. The characters are multi-faceted with realistic flaws and their growth throughout the story is absolutely phenomenal. Victoria Vane’s research into the BLM wild mustang program is outstanding and the vivid descriptions of the entire process bring this part of plot brilliantly to life. The romance between Keith and Miranda is sweet yet sexy and it is an absolute joy watching them fall in love. All in all, a heartwarming, poignant love story that I highly recommend to fans of the genre.

Summary:

TAKE YOUR BEST SHOT, COWBOY…

Weary warrior… After eight years as a Marine sniper, war-scarred Reid Everett is back in his native Wyoming. He knows and loves this rugged land, so working for wildlife services to reduce the booming wolf population suits him to a T.

Caring crusader… Wildlife biologist Haley Cooper is desperate to make a difference. Leaving the world of academia behind, she accepts a position as a wolf advocate to protect the animals she loves.

Raw attraction… Their jobs set them on a collision course, but chemistry sparks like wildfire between Reid and Haley. They’ll have to brave some rough territory if they hope to reconcile their polarizing views with a passion that won’t be denied.

Review:

In Sharp Shootin’ Cowboy, Victoria Vane pairs up Marine sniper and Wyoming cowboy Reid Everett with wildlife biologist and wolf advocate Haley Cooper. The two share a scorching hot attraction, but their differing opinions on fundamental issues keeps them apart for several years despite Reid’s attempts to convince Haley to give a relationship between them a chance.

Haley is a woman with strong beliefs and it is virtually impossible to get her to see any viewpoint but her own. She has serious trust issues and she seizes any excuse to push Reid away. Haley is rather naive, a tad bit irritating and so incredibly stubborn that it is VERY easy to become frustrated with her. But keep in mind, the story spans several years, so try to be patient and give her the chance to grow and mature.

Reid has strong principles but he does not view things strictly in black and white like Haley does. He is more fair-minded and willing to listen to differing opinions. He is tenacious and although Haley does not give him any reason to think he has a chance with her, Reid reaches out to her time and again. He is willing to give their relationship a fair chance but Reid does eventually get tired of continually getting shot down.

By the time Reid and Haley meet again, this time in Wyoming, he has given up on a relationship with her. He is out of the military and trying to settle back into life on the family ranch when they unexpectedly cross paths. They are still on opposite sides of the wolf issue, but for the first time, Haley is beginning to see real life effects of wolf reintegration. Their attraction is still sizzling hot and they rekindle their romance, but once again, Haley’s misgivings come between them. However, outside interference poses the greatest threat to their relationship and it is up to Haley to try mend the rift between them.  But will it be too little, too late?

Sharp Shooting’ Cowboy is a fast-paced romance with a very unique storyline. While wolf reintegration is a controversial topic, Victoria Vane does a wonderful job presenting unbiased information about both sides of the issue. The conflict between Reid and Haley seems insurmountable which makes the final resolution of their problems that much sweeter. All in all, it is an absolutely marvelous addition to the Hot Cowboy Nights series that old and new fans are sure to enjoy.

Summary:

Two wary hearts …
Janice Combes has two loves, bucking bulls and Dirk Knowlton. But Dirk only has eyes for a dazzling rodeo queen. How can Janice ever compete while mired ankle-deep in manure? Exchanging playful banter with Dirk is all Janice can expect-until the stormy night he knocks on her door dripping wet and needing a place to crash.

Different Dreams…
Dirk Knowlton is living the cowboy dream. Life should be good-roping, branding, backing broncs, riding bulls, but there’s a void he can’t seem to fill. After getting hung up by a bull, he wonders if this is really the life he wants. Restless and rebellious, he bolts…but there’s a certain cowgirl he can’t forget.

When a battle-scarred Dirk returns to his Montana ranch he’s determined to hang on at any cost. Janice has come back home to lick her own wounds. When old dreams turn to dust, can two wary hearts take another chance on love?

The Review:

Rough Rider is the scorching hot second installment in Victoria Vane’s Hot Cowboy Nights Series. This fast -paced romance is a wonderful mix of themes: it has a new adult-y vibe for the first part of the story but then it turns into a very heartwarming second chance at love story. Another fantastic thing about this novel is that it can stand alone for newcomers to the series while the missing pieces of the Knowlton brothers’ troubled relationship are fully revealed to readers of Slow Hand.

When Rough Rider opens, Janice Combes and Dirk Knowlton are in their early twenties and both are busy following the rodeo circuit. Janice is a stock contractor and Dirk is a competitor in rough stock events (bronc and bull riding). Janice has been in love with Dirk for years, but since Dirk has been in a long term relationship with Rachel Carson for years, the two are just friends. A series of misunderstandings, lack of communication and impulsive decisions take both Janice and Dirk in very different directions, but when they are reunited after a ten year separation, will the couple finally get the chance to live happily ever after?

The years apart were not easy for either Janice or Dirk. Janice married a bull rider but theirs was not a happy marriage. Now widowed, she, along with her nine year old son, have returned to Montana. Since the family’s ranch has mostly been sold to pay off debt, she is working as a waitress while trying to find a job on one of the area ranches. Dirk’s time in the military has left mental and physical scars and he is locked in a fierce battle with his brother over the fate of their family’s ranch. Janice and Dirk’s first meeting does not end well, but they set aside their differences when Dirk offers Janice a part time job as a ranch hand. However, their professional relationship is quickly complicated by their simmering attraction and unresolved issues from their long ago past.

Rough Rider is an intense and emotional novel that is sure to delight readers of contemporary western romances. Victoria Vane brilliantly weaves past and present into a heartfelt and engaging love story that is realistic and quite touching. The Hot Cowboy Nights series is absolutely outstanding and one that I highly recommend to fans of this genre.

Summary:

In rural Montana…
Wade Knowlton is a hardworking lawyer who’s torn between his small-town Montana law practice and a struggling family ranch. He’s on the brink of exhaustion from trying to save everybody and everything, when gorgeous Nicole Powell walks into his office. She’s a damsel in distress and the breath of fresh air he needs.

Even the lawyers wear boots…
Nicole Powell is a sassy Southern girl who has officially sworn off cowboys after a spate of bad seeds-until her father’s death sends her to Montana and into the arms of a man who seems too good to be true. Her instincts tell her to high tail it out of Montana, but she can’t resist a cowboy with a slow hand…

The Review:

Longtime fans of Victoria Vane will be absolutely delighted with Slow Hand, the first novel in her contemporary romance series, Hot Cowboy Nights. This fast-paced and engaging love story is an excellent beginning to the series and will leave fans very eager for the next installment.

Wade Knowlton wears many hats (primarily lawyer and unwilling cowboy) but he is first and foremost, a gentleman. So when he notices a very sexy woman having a minor meltdown in the airport, he gallantly gives up his seat for the lovely, distraught lady. While Nicole “Nikki” Powell is grateful to get to her next destination, she is more than happy to see the backside of the sexy cowboy. However, unluckily for her (but luckily for him), Wade’s duty as her knight in shining armor continues when she finds herself stranded in Bozeman, Montana.

Wade is a charming, loyal and sincerely nice man. Although he wants nothing more than to leave ranching behind and concentrate fully on his law career, he knows how much his family counts on his help, so he dutifully continues to fill in whenever needed. Wade is also very chivalrous and despite Nikki’s very prickly attitude, he lends her a helping hand when she discovers her wallet is missing in addition to helping her settle her estranged father’s estate.

Nikki is not only a fish out of water, she is also grieving her father’s loss despite their long standing estrangement. Having sworn off cowboys after a string of ill-fated love affairs, she is determined to ignore her attraction to Wade. But when circumstances continue to throw them together, the couple find it impossible to resist their desire for one another.

Nikki and Wade’s romance is a very entertaining blend of sexy banter and sizzling lovemaking. While neither of them is really looking for anything long term, Wade is more open to a lasting relationship. But Nikki is very resistant to pursuing a future with him and this becomes a major stumbling block for the couple. Nikki does eventually have a change of heart where Wade is concerned, but will it prove too late to salvage their relationship?

Slow Hand is a well-written novel with a lovely cast of fully developed characters. Wade is an outgoing, easy love hero whereas it takes longer to completely warm up to Nikki. The plot is fairly straight forward, and while it is sometimes a little predictable, this does not detract from overall story. Victoria Vane does an excellent job setting up the next novel in the Hot Cowboy Nights series with the introduction of Wade’s brother, Dirk and his love interest, Janice.

Review: Devil in the Making by Victoria Vane

Title: Devil in the Making by Victoria Vane
Devilish Vignettes Book One
Genre: Historical
Length: Short Story
Book Rating: B+

Review Copy Obtained from Author

Summary:

Every devil has a beginning…

A rebellious young nobleman’s prank with the king’s lion goes comically awry, leading to a startling chain of events.

A riotous Georgian romp in the tradition of Fielding’s Tom Jones and a prequel to the Devil DeVere series.

***This title is NOT a romance***

The Review:

Victoria Vane’s Devil in the Making is an amusing but poignant tale that provides fans of The Devil DeVere series with fascinating insight into Ludovic DeVere.

This short story begins with DeVere’s schoolboy prank with his close friends Ned Chambers (A Wild Night’s Bride) and Simon Singleton (Jewel of the East, release date 2/13). But it is the aftermath of their misadventure that reveals how DeVere’s dysfunctional family shaped him into the man that stole our hearts in all of the The Devil DeVere novellas.

This first installment of the Devilish Vignettes is a fast moving adventure that is as heartbreaking as it is fun. In Devil in the Making readers finally meet DeVere’s mother and father and learn the ugly truth surrounding their marriage and Ludovic’s childhood. We also see the kind-hearted, generous and honorable rake we grew to love in The Devil DeVere books.

Victoria Vane delivers yet another well researched story that is a fabulous mix of fact and fiction. Devil in the Making is a delightful peek into the early years of the infinitely charming and positively captivating Ludovic DeVere. Of course, it was also wonderful revisiting Ned and I am infinitely intrigued by the introduction of Simon “Sin” Singleton. I am eagerly awaiting their respective stories, Ned’s Folly and The Trouble with Sin.

Mini Excerpt:

DeVere, on the other hand, evinced no such qualms. He had already loosened his cravat and was stripping off his coat.

“As I said earlier, there is no need,” Phoebe insisted. “A couple of buttons and a raised petticoat are all the business requires.”

“How delightfully unromantic you are, my dear!” He chuckled. “But while most men would be charmed to comply with your simple wishes, I have quite another game in mind. One that most definitely requires you to disrobe.”

“But what if I don’t want to?”

“Oh but you will,” he said with a smug smile.

She glared. “You are very sure of yourself!”

He studied his buffed fingernails. “I am sure of Ned. Thus, we must put on a convincing show.”

Her brows came together in a deep scowl. “What do you mean? What has Ned to do with this?”

“Everything. And at any moment, I expect him to burst through that door like a raging bull.”

“Why are you eavesdropping on grooms?”

“I used to watch the stallions leaping the mares.”

“You what!” Hew almost choked.

“Well, how else is a girl with no mother supposed to get any education? Although I doubt Mama would have told me very much. So there’s really no reason to be timid, Hew. I already know all about the mating process. And to the best of my knowledge, the stallions never ‘ignored it until it went away.’ Please feel free to relieve yourself of it. Mini Excerpt:

She wanted him too. He could see it in the rapid rise of her breasts. He could smell her budding arousal and would relish bringing her to full bloom. God, how he loved this dance! She had taken the first tentative steps, yet she still fought her desire, refused to give in to it, but he would lead her now. He was a master…and a ruthless bastard.

He moved behind her, his fingers riffled gently through her hair. He closed his eyes to inhale her faint rose scent mixed with womanly musk. He dipped his head, letting his breath tickle her ear. She shivered. He whispered low and sultry. “Do you wish me to name the ways I can please you? I am delighted to comply if that excites you…although it would please me far more to demonstrate.”

Read my review HERE.

Mini Excerpt:
DeVere rose and came to her, perching himself on the arm of the settle. “My honorable and straitlaced brother could never satisfy a woman like you, Diana. He could never plumb the depths of your passion…unlock your secret desires.”

His voice was low and seductive, and the flickering blue fire in his eyes heated her insides. Diana fiercely tamped down the smoldering sensation that threatened to reignite feelings she’d struggled to suppress. “And what would you know of my wants and desires after four years?”

“A great deal.” He gave her a slow, confident smile. “Given that I was the one to unleash them.”

Diana averted her face with a bitter laugh. “Thus you presume to have an exclusive claim to me?”

“Has any other exerted one?” he asked softly. He reached out a hand and traced a long, manicured finger along her jaw. “You are still unwed, Diana. Have you taken another lover in my absence?”

“It is none of your business whether I have or not, and you are grossly impertinent to ask.”

He laughed long and low. “I think I have my answer.”

She glared at him, and thus they remained, silently challenging one another for an interminable beat. Then suddenly his mouth was on hers, taking, possessing, as if it was indeed, his singular privilege.

Diana leaned into him, teasing his lower lip with her tongue and sucking it eagerly into her mouth before sinking her teeth into it. Hard. Savoring the coppery taste of his blood.

“What the hell!” DeVere jerked back with a cry. He touched his lip and examined the crimson stain on his fingertip, his expression a mix of outrage and bemusement.

“You took without invitation,” Diana said. “It was a warning not to do so again.”
