SOMETHING SWEETER, the third full-length book in my Sweet, Texas series has just been released and I’m now starting on book five. As always, I have to consider that first great opening line. Which always sends my mind spinning to some of my very favorite opening lines and even my favorites in general. We all have our favorite authors and our favorite books. But have you ever read one line and thought it was funny or poignant?
I’ve got a few:
From ONE FOR THE MONEY by Janet Evanovich:
There are some men who enter a woman’s life and screw it up forever.
From THE BEST MAN by Kristin Higgins:
Microfiber Slim-Nation undergarments and sweater-eating toilets were still better than angry wives and adorable toddlers calling you a whore, right?
From ON THE WAY TO THE WEDDING by Julia Quinn:
Clearly she was missing an extremely important connecting vessel between her brain and her mouth, and heaven only knew what might emerge from her lips next.
From LOVER ETERNAL by J.R. Ward:
Sometimes, pretending to be normal was the very best antidote to weirdness.
And one of my favorites from Allison Lane, the heroine in my new release, SOMETHING SWEETER:
Allison stood in the guest bedroom of her father’s house, trying to decide if jeans were the appropriate attire to murder someone, or if she should go all out and wear a dress.
Obviously I have eclectic reading tastes, but I’m always looking for that one line that just zings me.
What’s your favorite line?
Title: Something Sweeter by Candis Terry
Sweet, Texas Series Book Thee
Genre: Contemporary, Romance
Length: 384 pages
The men in Texas are hard to resist . . .
Seattle event planner Allison Lane is an expert at delivering the perfect wedding—even if she might not exactly believe in the whole “’til death do us part” thing. When her father decides to tie the knot with a woman he barely knows, Allison heads to Sweet, Texas, to make sure his new honey is the real deal. What she didn’t expect to find at the local honky-tonk was a sexy Southern man as bent on charming her pants off as he is on blowing her “true love doesn’t exist” theory all to hell.
And they always promise . . .
Veterinarian, former Marine, and Sweet’s favorite playboy Jesse Wilder takes one look at Allison and knows she’s a handful of trouble he can’t deny. But even after a sizzling kiss and obvious mutual attraction, it seems Allison has no such problem. When Jesse uncovers her sweet side, can he crush his playboy image, melt her cynical heart, and change her mind about taking a trip down the aisle?

Candis Terry was born and raised near the sunny beaches of Southern California and now makes her home on an Idaho farm. She’s experienced life in such diverse ways as working in a Hollywood recording studio to chasing down wayward steers. Only one thing has remained the same: her passion for writing stories about relationships, the push and pull in the search for love, and the security one finds in their own happily ever after.
