I worked on that autograph as long as I’ve worked on some stories. Okay, that’s an exaggeration, but I did stress over it nonetheless. Someone in the house told me I was unpleasant to be around while I was scrawling all over the place. I say, that person just has no sense of adventure.
The guys in Unexpected Moments have a sense of adventure. They dare to try something most people never will, even if they secretly yearn to. Carter and Eddie are looking to bring another man into their relationship, which they agreed on from the get-go. They don’t just want a man to screw around with once or twice, or even steadily. They want a man to join them on their walk through life, a man to love and grow with, to experience the joys and sorrows that come their way.
That means no keeping their relationship a secret, if they find their perfect man. None of them have to go out flaunting it, but those close to them will know. That’s a hard thing to do, step out of societal boundaries and truly go against it. How many people do you think would have a problem with it? If you can, try to imagine yourself living such a live. Can you envision what your family members and friends would think and say? What about co-workers? How would you handle going out on a date?
It’s intriguing to step into a world different from my own, to delve into a relationship that I’ve not experienced. Trying to get into the minds of my fictional characters was fun, that’s for certain.
This isn’t the first ménage I’ve written, not at all. Whereas once I was intimidated and skeptical of writing them, now I love doing so. They’ve opened my eyes and mind to new possibilities. Not for myself—the Hubs is quite enough for me—but in general, I’ve come to realize that it doesn’t matter how many people are in a relationship, as long as everyone is an agreeable adult and honesty is an unbreakable rule. If a dozen people decide they want to live and love as one group, then more power to them. They aren’t offending me and if they were, that’d be my problem, not theirs.
Now, thinking about that dozen imaginary people… Ah, dang it. Come here, plot bunny!
