It’s hard to keep a secret in the small town of Pike, Montana, but veterinarian Margot McDougal and sheriff Roy Lee Hanson managed to keep their relationship on the sly for months. Margot cares for Roy Lee, but the last thing she needs is to worry about local gossip while she’s busy running her clinic and dealing with the loss of her beloved father.
Roy Lee can’t wait to tell the world that he loves Margot. He respected her decision to keep their affair quiet—until now. It’s time for everyone to know Margot is his gal…especially Ryan Martin, her new assistant. He’s formed an attachment to Margot and Roy Lee is sure the city boy’s unexplained appearance in Pike means he’s up to no good.

The Review:
Margot’s Lawman, the third installment in Debra Kayn’s fabulous Sisters of McDougal Ranch series is a sweet, sexy and fun read. Keeping a secret is difficult to do in a small town, but Margot McDougal and Roy Lee Hanson have managed to keep their relationship under wraps for eleven months. Now that they have finally decided to reveal their romance, Margot and Roy Lee’s days of keeping secrets are over. Or are they?
As the oldest McDougal daughter Margot is used to being in complete control of her life and the world around her. She is a planner who sets her goals and works hard to achieve them. Like her other sisters, her Daddy’s death hit her hard and she is still struggling with the void his death has left in her life. Deeply in love with Roy Lee, Margot is forced to examine her motives for keeping their relationship a closely guarded secret.
As a close neighbor, Roy Lee has a longstanding friendship with the McDougal family. His love for Margot is strong and while he may not be happy about it, he is infinitely patient with her desire to keep their romance quiet. As the town sheriff, his instincts tell him there is something a little off about Ryan Martin, the veterinarian working for Margot.
What I really like most about Margot’s Lawman is the fact that Roy Lee and Margot already have an established relationship. There is no doubt they love one another but they do have some trust issues they need to work through. Ryan Martin’s role in their lives provides added conflict and acts as a catalyst for them to confront their issues.
As with Chantilly’s Cowboy (HERE) and Val’s Rancher (reviewed HERE), the close relationship between the sisters plays a key role in this family based series. The sisters continue to support one another in their relationships, and they provide encouragement for one another as they all continue to mourn Stuart McDougal’s death. Stuart’s loving presence is keenly felt as the sisters fall in love and begin to move on with their lives.
Margot’s Lawman a compelling story that is thoroughly engaging. The characters are well-developed and likeable and the romance between Margot and Roy Lee is heartwarming. Make room on your keeper shelf for another captivating installment in this fresh and charming series from Debra Kayn.
