Summary:
Never press the “ignore” button on love…

Fated, Book 2

In these uncertain times, Mia Skinner’s Blackberry is her lifeline to independence…and a twenty-four/seven chain to her overbearing boss. When she loses it on a girls’ night out, it’s a disaster with pink slip written all over it—until she takes a chance and calls her number. And ends up talking to Mr. Sexiest-Voice-Alive.

The moment Jacob Miller lays eyes on the phone’s beautiful owner, a bolt of lust makes him want to make a sexy mess of her tidy outfit and perfectly straight hair. Which is a good sign. It means he’s almost fully recovered from a near-debilitating construction accident. Perhaps a little horizontal healing will get him back on his feet for good.

As their passion burns bright and hot, a funny thing happens. Mia’s ignoring her phone—and Jake’s the one itching to get back to work. But he’s building a plan that’ll let her hang up on her increasingly creepy boss for good. If Mia’s willing to meet him in the middle.

Product Warnings: Delicious, toe-curling sex including a lusty scene in a truck flying down the freeway. A hero whose greatest thrill is lavishing all his attention upon the woman he wants more than anything in the world.

The Review:

Baby, Don’t Lose My Number is the delightfully steamy second installment in Karen Erickson’s fun and sexy Fated series.

Baby, Don’t Lose My Number is a scorching hot story with unexpected depth and strong emotion. Mia Skinner and Jake Miller are realistic, likeable characters that readers will find easy to relate to. Their first date is sweet and romantic, and they take the time to get to know one another before tearing each other’s clothes off. But when their clothes do finally come off? The passion explodes between this lusty couple and the sex is incendiary.

Baby, Don’t Lose My Number is a charming romance that is both erotic and heartwarming. Karen Erickson has once again written a story that will leave you believing in Fate and love at first sight. She also leaves her readers eagerly anticipating the next novella in this fabulous series.

Hotblooded by Erin Nicholas

Title: Hotblooded by Erin Nicholas
Publisher: Samhain Publishing, Ltd
Genre: Contemporary, Romance
Length: Novel
Book Rating: B

Summary:
Her mama always said the women in their family were hotblooded…

And it’s been causing Brooke Donovan trouble her whole life. But it wasn’t until her mother took on the most powerful man in Honey Creek, Texas, that Brooke truly realized the daughter of the town whore didn’t stand a chance. When she left, it was supposed to be for good. But now, thanks to her late husband’s deal with their hometown, she’s back in the last place on earth she wants to be. Temporarily. As soon as her debts are paid off, she’s outta here. Until in walks the one man who can make her rethink everything.

Dr. Jack Silver fixes things. So, when he learns his uncle is responsible for Brooke losing her husband, his sense of honor drives him across Texas to make amends. Instead of a broken woman, though, he finds a gorgeous, feisty physician’s assistant trying to survive in a town that wants her gone. She also has a mile-high fence built out of pride—and a clinic that’s at risk of going belly up. She may not want his money, but the clinic? He can fix that. He just never expects that in setting Brooke back on her feet, he’ll be swept right off his own.

Product Warnings: Contains a hot-blooded woman, a man who really likes that about her, a town with a long memory, and a cappuccino machine that makes it all worthwhile.

The Review:

Hotblooded by Erin Nicholas is a deliciously steamy yet very sweet romance. An instant attraction between Dr. Jack Silver and Brooke Donovan quickly becomes complicated when their lust turns to love.

Because of her mother’s notorious past, Brooke is always prim, proper, buttoned up, cool and aloof. Well, most of the time anyway. Every once in a while she sets her inner vixen free, and that is the Brooke Donovan that Dr. Jack Silver meets. Imagine Jack’s surprise when he later meets the “real” Brooke. With a (perceived) debt to settle, superhero Jack sets out to “rescue” Brooke.

The buildup of Brooke and Jack’s relationship is a slow burn that occasionally bursts into flames. Bits and pieces of the story are revealed painstakingly slow but the surprising twists make it well worth the wait. Brooke’s obsession with the town’s opinion of her is frustrating, but understandable given her past. Jack patience with Brooke’s hot and cold attitude culminates in an epic showdown that proves to be a dramatic turning point for both characters.

Hotblooded by Erin Nicholas is a fabulous read with winsome characters and an engaging storyline. The dialogue between Brooke and Jack is humorous, sexy and thought-provoking. Their lovemaking is deliciously hot and spicy. The epilogue is heartwarming and perfectly wraps up this delightful romance.

Whether you are an Erin Nicholas fan or just a fan of contemporary romances, you should definitely add Hotblooded to your list of must read novels.

Length: Category
Book Rating: B

Summary:

Oh, the delicious peril of deception…

Lady Marianne Gillingham has no intention of ending her affair with David Dunscombe, Earl Harrington, despite his pending nuptials. She craves his attentions, and he satisfies her deepest yearnings.

Yet, when his fiancée, the sweet, innocent and oh-so-very young Annabelle Frazier, appears on her doorstep to demand the end of the association, Marianne realizes she does not wish to be second in David’s affections. She also cannot resist issuing a warning. The earl will bed his wife with tedious regularity, but never reveal his more unusual desires.

To Marianne’s amusement, her prediction comes true, with a surprising twist. The countess is back with a new demand: repair the problem her prophetic words created. Taking pleasure in imagining the other woman’s fear and horror, Marianne rekindles the affair to demonstrate exactly how to fulfill David’s lascivious desires—while Annabelle secretly watches from the shadows.

She never expected Annabelle to prove so resilient and surprisingly easy—not to mention delicious—to corrupt. Or that the ensuing erotic tangle would be impossible to put right without heartbreak.

Product Warnings: Loosen your stays and have your fan at hand. Plumes and floggers, along with some other leather devices, were employed in the creating of this erotic tangle. Contains Georgian ladies behaving badly, often with each other. M/F/F, M/F, F/F action herein.

The Review:

What the Mistress Did by Anya Delvay is an intensely erotic and emotional journey. Lady Marianne Gillingham agrees to teach Annabelle Frasier how to please her husband David Dunscombe. But Marianne is unprepared for the lessons she is about to receive from Annabelle.

The first of impression of Marianne is that of a pragmatic, cold and uncaring woman. However, as the story progresses, different facets of her personality are revealed, and we see the emotions and desires she keeps hidden from herself and others. She is extremely comfortable in her sexuality and she eagerly explores and expands her sexual boundaries.

Annabelle is not the typical malleable young fiancée or wife. She not only confronts her fiancé’s mistress but she seeks Marianne’s advice when it becomes obvious she is not satisfying her husband’s desires. Uncomfortable and shocked by some of acts she witnesses, Annabelle soon embraces in her quickly awakening sexuality.

David is the typical aristocratic husband. Like most men, he easily compartmentalizes the various parts of his life, and Marianne and Annabelle are no exception. He is secure in his manhood and the power in his relationship with Marianne shifts between the two of them.

While What the Mistress Did is heavy on the sex, there is a great deal of emotional depth to it as well. Marianne and Annabelle’s relationship is complex with their emotions becoming entangled with their sexual explorations. Annabelle matures both emotionally and sexually. She is extremely perceptive and her astute observations prove to be turning points in Marianne’s life.

What the Mistress Did is a highly erotic novel. There is a strong BDSM element with both Marianne and David taking turns as the dominant partner. Marianne and Annabelle’s sex scenes are deliciously sensuous.

If you are in the mood for a historical romance with substance, emotion and lots steamy sex, then you should pick up a copy of What the Mistress Did by Anya Delvay. It is a well-written and fast paced novel with a realistic and compelling storyline. It is not a light read with a typical happily ever after ending, but it is a captivating story that you do not want to miss.

Length: Novella
Book Rating: B

Summary:

It’ll take more than a fire hose to cool down this attraction…

Fated, Book 1

Rain, rain, go away. That’s Jenna’s mantra as she suffers through yet another rain-soaked walk home from work. At least the tight butt of the guy walking in front of her offers some distraction. When he turns around and asks to share her umbrella, she realizes his front view is as smokin’ as the back. What better way to get up close and personal with the object of her ogling?

Brett noticed his hot little neighbor weeks ago, but until now hadn’t worked up the nerve—or found the opportunity—to approach her. Too many hours at the fire station has left him longing for something more out of life. Like the company of a sweet, sexy woman. Maybe, if he’s lucky, kindling a relationship.

Jenna surprises herself again when she offers to let him dry off in her apartment. One minute he’s toweling off his hair, the next their chemistry explodes in the hottest sex either of them have ever experienced. And suddenly they’re both wondering if he’s the match to her tinder, or if it’s too much, too fast…

Product Warnings: Contains smokin’ hot sex with a delicious stranger who turns out to be her neighbor who turns into the hottest firefighter she’s ever met. Grab a glass of ice water to cool these flames!

The Review:

In Karen Erickson’s Under My Umbrella Jenna and Brett’s chance meeting leads to pure, unadulterated sex. Is it just hot sex? Or will Fate guide this couple to love?

Under My Umbrella is a delicious mix of erotic sex and romance. The sexual chemistry between Jenna and Brett is scorching, and their sex scenes are delectably steamy. Brett is undeniably hot and I love how he loses control when he is with Jenna. Jenna is supremely self-confident so I will admit her moments of self doubt caught me off guard. Luckily her good friend Morgan talks some common sense into her when she needs it!

Under My Umbrella is an engaging story about love at first sight and believing that Fate plays a hand in our lives. I must confess I am usually not a fan of “insta-love” plots, but Karen Erickson pulls it off with Jenna and Brett. I am really looking forward to the other books in the Fated series.

The Review:

Two Step Temptation by Emma Jay is an engaging short story that is deliciously steamy. In an attempt protect her heart Haven Reynolds is determined to keep her distance from Eric Viera. However, she finds it difficult to resist her sexy ex-lover.

Hooked by Cat Johnson

Title: Hooked by Cat Johnson
Studs in Spurs Book 4
Publisher: Samhain Publishing, LTD

Book Rating: B+

Summary:

His last eight seconds could lead to the longest, most satisfying ride of his life.

Studs in Spurs, Book 4

Annie Grant is at the top of her game as an on-air interviewer for the pro bull-riders tour. In all those years standing within microphone range of thousands of sexy cowboys, she’s never been tempted…until now. Now that respected veteran Luke Carpenter is no longer with his longtime girlfriend, he’s back on the market. And Annie is buying.

Luke knows his days are numbered. Every year the rookies get younger, the bulls get ranker and, like it or not, the time is coming when he’ll be hanging up his spurs. After a sizzling hot night with Annie, he realizes that maybe this old dog can learn some new tricks. But quicker than a bull can spin, things get complicated.

A tragedy forces Luke into a no-win decision: hang onto the tail end of his career, or retire early for his family. Either way, he can live with his choice. Question is, can he live without Annie?

Product Warnings: Contains knock-your-boots-off cowboy lovin, some up close and personal interviews of the oral persuasion, and a happy ending…cowboy style.

The Review:

With Hooked Cat Johnson has added another paging turning installment to her bull riding series Studs in Spurs. After years as professional acquaintances, Annie Grant and Luke Carpenter finally enjoy one achingly sweet first date followed by a night of scorching hot sex. Just as their romance is heating up, a tragedy sends Luke home and their relationship seems to end before it has the chance to begin.

Hooked is an engaging novel that is filled with emotion. The characters are beautifully drawn with realistic flaws and vulnerabilities. I love how even though Annie is filled with uncertainly about approaching Luke, she conquers her fear and makes the first move. Luke’s anxiety and nervousness about re-entering the dating world is adorable and his inner dialogue during their date is hilarious.

While Hooked is definitely a romance, Annie and Luke spend a lot of the novel apart. Much of the story is seen through Luke’s eyes as he copes with the aftermath of the tragic event which takes him off the bull riding circuit. It is an unusual approach, but I found that it worked really well for this couple.

Hooked is a compelling read with a unique plot. It is a poignant novel with a great deal of substance and emotional depth. There are a couple of scenes that brought me to tears so be sure and keep the tissues handy.

Cat Johnson does a superb job of keeping the Studs in Spurs series fresh and unique and she brings the sport of bull riding vividly to life. As always, readers will be impatiently awaiting her next installment in this delightful series.
