Book Talk: What have you been reading lately?

Welcome to this week’s Book Talk!

Murder in the Family by Cara Hunter: 4 stars. A very unique premise that I really liked. The pacing is a little slow but this did not lessen my enjoyment. The characters are well-drawn. There are plenty of plot twists. The conclusion is quite unexpected.

Wild Dogs by Michael Trant: 4.5 stars. Read my review HERE.

Why We Did It by Tim Miller: 5 stars. A dishy look at GOP campaign strategies by someone with plenty of experiences working in communications for the GOP. He also offers intriguing peeks into the reasons why so many non-supporters of the 45th president went to work in his administration. A wry, funny and insightful non-fiction book.

Appalachian Song by Michelle Shocklee: Read my review 10/3.

October Reading Challenge: Set in Canada

October’s Reading Challenge is to read a novel set in Canada.

I absolutely loved the Rockton/Casey Duncan Series and I was so disppointed to learn the series was ending. But Kelley Armstrong had a spin-off series up her sleeve! YAY! So I am going to read Murder at Haven’s Rock, which is the first book in the Haven’s Rock series.

Need some help finding a book set in Canada? Goodreads has some great books HERE.

September Reading Challenge Discussion

September’s Reading Challenge was to read a book from another Reading Challenge.

I really enjoyed my challenge book, Wild Dogs by Michael Trant. This adventure thriller set in the Western Australian Outback is full of non-stop action. The characters are well-drawn and the good guys are very likable. The isolated setting springs vibrantly to life. The storyline is engaging and well-developed. I am very much looking forward to reading the sequel, No Trace.

Thrifty Thursday: Rafe by Nicole Edwards

Do you love gay romances? Are you looking for a book that costs less than $5.00? Then you might want to check out:

Title: Rafe by Nicole Edwards
The Walkers of Coyote Ridge Book 11
Publisher: Nicole Edwards Limited
Genre: Contemporary, Gay, Romance
Length: 430 pages

Summary:

A history of running…

When Rafe Sharpe was eighteen, he put Coyote Ridge, his family, and everyone he knew in his rearview in order to escape his past. When he returned three years ago, everyone thought he’d returned to face the horrors that had shaped his existence. What he didn’t tell anyone was that he’d been running then, too.

But settling in didn’t mean settling down because that wasn’t in the cards for Rafe, even if he was secretly pining for the beautiful, pure-hearted Bailey Weber. Despite being his greatest temptation, Rafe managed to keep Bailey in the friend zone, opting to be her confidante and protector, ensuring she believed her feelings for him weren’t reciprocated. After all, Rafe wasn’t worthy of anyone’s love. Not after what he did.

The past and present collide…

It isn’t until a handsome man from his past rolls into town that Rafe realizes what he was running from and what he’s been resisting would soon come together, becoming a powerful pull on the heartstrings he didn’t even know he had.
